Artist's Statement

Stephanie Lee Jackson, 2005

I seek to bring forth art which is transcendent; that acknowledges darkness while struggling toward the light. In my own life and healing practice I have an explicitly spiritual but non-religious outlook.  I believe that every expression of life and soul is inherently perfect, and I see “healing” as the process of bringing this perfection into conscious awareness.  I work to create art which has a timeless resonance, a commitment to truth, a richness, humor, and a peace which comes of thorough conceptual consideration and intimate understanding of its medium.

I am essentially a representational painter, but I do not think that this is an important distinction; the thing represented should not matter nearly so much as the actual kinesthetic impact of the painting. I know that a painting is finished when every part of it is working to create a harmonious force that I can feel in my solar plexus.

It is important to me that my art be integrated with life; that it enhances the energy of a home or workspace, and that, like a spiritual text or a piece of poetry, it can be experienced on many levels over the course of a lifetime.
